Senior Test Engineer (Position # 104-2008)

VIPER Services is a subsidiary of the Institute for Advanced Learning & Research (IALR) located in Danville, Virginia. In cooperation with Virginia Tech, Old Dominion University, and Virginia International Raceway, VIPER provides state-of-the-art testing services to the racing industry using brand new facilities located at the Virginia International Raceway "Raceplex" in Halifax County, Virginia, a site approximately 15 miles from the IALR campus in Danville. Test assets located at VIR include an 8-post Shaker Rig, a planned driving simulator, a chassis dynamometer, and access to the 14' x 22' Langley Full Scale wind Tunnel through the offices of Old Dominion University. Access to the VIR track is also assured through the cooperative agreements in place among the entities that comprise VIPER Services. VIPER will maintain a unique competitive advantage through the transfer of technology developed in active research programs.

VIPER Services is seeking a full-time Senior Test Engineer to lead the 8-post Rig operation and development effort. The Senior Test Engineer will report to the Virginia Tech/IALR Performance Engineering Director who is located at the IALR. This position provides an exciting opportunity to develop a start-up business that has world-class equipment and is supported by the expertise of the Mechanical Engineering Departments of two major universities. This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Responsibilities: The Senior Test Engineer will be responsible for the daily operation of the 8-post Rig. The successful candidate will be required to have the expertise necessary to provide significant value to race teams using this asset. The Senior Test Engineer is also expected to work closely with the University partners to advance the state-of-the-art in-vehicle testing. Supervision of technicians and mechanics is expected.

Requirements.

The Senior Test Engineer will be required to develop and manage the 8-post operation during customer tests as well as research and development projects. This job is highly suited to an entrepreneur with engineering experience. Demonstrated ability to solve technical problems is required, and specific experience in the racing industry is highly desired. Specifically, direct experience with 7-post operation and vehicle data systems is required. A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related field is required.
